Appeal for Donations for Victims of War in Georgia

Dear Partners and Friends,

Academy for Peace and Development (APD), Tbilisi, Georgia, is launching an urgent appeal for donations for the Georgian victims of the war between Georgia and Russia.

Academy for Peace and Development is an international, non-governmental, non-profit-making and non-political organisation located in Tbilisi, Georgia, which is dedicated to promoting peace, tolerance and cultural diversity in Southern Caucasus. Situation:

Following the military conflict between Georgia and Russia that started on the 8^th of August 2008 according to the United Nations about 100.000 people left their homes. Within Georgia approximately 60.000 people are now considered as Internally Displaced People (IDPs), mainly coming from the coty of Gori and the territory of South Ossetia. Most of the IDPs are in emergency need of shelters, food, water, hygenic kits and medical supplies. Large amount of IDPs are situated in and around Tbilisi, the capital of Georgia, but others are also situated in Western Georgia far away from any humanitarian help.
